Minutes of Excelsior District Improvement Association August 24, 2010
Meeting called to order at 7:15pm by President Jackie Cash

Treasurer’s report: Current balance $3,015.82 after checks paid $2,893.82
($50 check paid to May Wong for Parking Summit food; $132 check paid to
Julian Cash for EDIA domain name yearly maintenance for past three years)
Ingleside Police Station, Captain Louis Cassanego presented map of crimes within ½
Mile radius of 45 Santa Rosa to illustrate that the most instances where assaults were committed by youth trying to prove themselves using hands and feet. Also that car break-ins being done by mobile thieves.
Tom Murphy, organizer of Jerry Day, announced that next Jerry Day is scheduled for August 7, 2011. He asked for suggestions to make the next Jerry Day better. Asked for membership to call upon MTA to consider installation of bike rakes in McLaren near the Amphitheater. Also announced a fundraiser at American Music Hall on September 4th.
Parking Summit update given by Vice President Patty De Vlieg. The sub-committee met with Supervisor John Avalos, on August 17th, identified pilot streets to be sent letter from the Supervisor’s office with an insert from EDIA surveying the neighbors as to which action they could agree upon with a follow-up visitation by members of the sub-committee to gather signatures and explain test program. Some suggestions that will be surveyed will include angle parking, painted stalls and citywide permits.
Leo Martinez reported on meeting at Coalition of San Francisco Neighborhoods (CSFN) noting that in Miraloma Park neighborhood, wind turbines on residential property are being opposed. One neighbor that has already installed a turbine is receiving negative feedback from neighbors due to noise. CSFN also is insisting that an environmental impact report on the waterfront be done.
The upcoming Excelsior Festival was discussed. Patty De Vlieg reported that EDIA had reserved a large booth each year and asked that Treasurer Mel Flores submit form and check for $50 after motion was made and approved.
EDIA Holiday Party was discussed. Several possible locations to hold the party were discussed for consideration; no one place was selected. Contact with the various locations was suggested and to be reported upon at next meeting. A suggestion was made to approach the other neighborhoods organizations and have a joint celebration; this will also be discussed in more detail at next meeting. Sunday, December 5, 2010 was agreed upon as date of party.
Linda Litehiser explained that grants were available for “menu” items identified by the Park and Recreation Department. The deadline is September 24, 2010.
A motion was made and approved for EDIA to provide Linda a letter of support for items to be considered under the grants for amphitheater kiosk and way-finder signage. Also a second letter of support for signage of rocks at Crocker Amazon Park mentioned by Patty De Vlieg. Both letters will be drafted by Linda Litehiser then sent under EDIA letterhead in time for grant deadline.
Update on Cleveland School murals by Linda D’Avirro; with repairs to school almost complete the two large murals will remain but the decals will be removed. Meetings are schedule in October to further discuss the decal removals.
The temporary mini park on Naples at Geneva has broken ground. Linda D’Avirro reports that the plans include raised planter boxes and trees in the area. The park will have underground irrigation with above ground sources for additional watering needs. The Cordova Market owner has given permission to have side of his building facing Naples to have a mural installed. Current street parking will remain unchanged.
Grace D’Anca announced a fundraiser for Precita Eyes on Saturday, September 25 at the SOMArts Cultural Center, 934 Brannan Street, San Francisco. Donations are welcome to provide gift baskets for event. Also arrangements are being discussed to hold a tour of the Excelsior area; points of interest are being sought.
Leo Martinez announced a free chili cook-off at Stern Gove on Saturday, September 18th sponsored by Fiona Ma’s office.
Two passes for the San Francisco City College Wellness Center were given to EDIA members.
Support for the new farmer’s market at the Cow Palace was mentioned, and this coming Saturday, August 28th, Fiona Ma will be presenting reusable bags to shoppers.
