Minutes of EDIA meeting July 24, 2007
1. Treasury Report. Bank balance of $3,311.37 as of this date, not including not yet deposited membership checks. No objection to additional expenditure of $12 more than previously authorized to cover additional cost of annual p.o. box rental. (Total authorized expenditure now $ 92. for rental.)
2 Announcements: Book club tomorrow, Excelsior festival benefit event Friday, July 27 and also a Jerry Day benefit at P.O. Pete’s on same date. Jerry Day on August 5. Street tree planting assistance available in district
3. Short presentation by representative of Home Depot on status of proposed new store to be located on Bayshore Blvd, at site of former Goodman’s Lumber and Whole Earth Access. Store currently projected at 107,000 sq. ft. If plans approved and no appeal, anticipate project construction to start in 2008 with completion in 2009 (best case). A number of not improbable contingencies would delay. Home Depot will generate100 jobs for residents of local communities, of which the Excelsior is one. Motion in support of project passed with 3 abstentions and no votes against.
4. Presentation by Patrick Hannan representing CityFields Foundation on the Crocker Amazon Playing Fields renovation project. Ground breaking tomorrow with completion anticipated in six months if no rain delays in construction. Pursuant to issue raised by residents, plans were revised keeping 49 trees on perimeter of fields previously slated for removal. Of trees to be removed, 5 are healthy and the rest have disease issues or are near the end of their life cycle. Removed trees will be replanted with new trees one for one.
5. Presentation by P.O. Pete’s, drinking establishment on Mission Street, concerning application for permit to provide entertainment on site. Described possible live music, karaoke other uses requiring permit. Numerous persons spoke in support of positive changes made by new owner, PeteWhitcomb, at the location. Motioned passed unanimously in support of the pending entertainment license application.
6. Presentation by officers from Ingleside Station on events transpiring in the district. Discussion of shooting into bus at Mission and Silver with no suspects in custody. Description of series of armed robberies of pedestrians focused in Visatacion Valley. Not yet spilling over into Excelsior but concern. Recommend extra caution and awareness by solitary pedestrians. Discussion of noise emanating from one or more churches on Mission Street with concern as to volume and hours. Officers understood little could be done if “not malicious” and occurring between hours of 7a.m. and 10p.m. No action. Resident described malicious vandalism to vehicles occurring on Lisbon in vicinity of Persia. Windshields broken, tires slashed, etc. Recommendation that police reports be filed after such incidents and station contacted to provide extra patrols in the vicinity.
