Excelsior District Improvement Association Meeting Minutes 6/22/10
Meeting called to order at 7:15pm by President Jackie Cash.
Leo Martinez led Pledge to the Flag.
Treasury Report by Vice President Patty DeVlieg, $2,910.22 in bank, introduction of
Mel Flores newly elected Treasurer.
Officers Carrasco and Dominguez of Ingleside Police Station presented report and took questions from members regarding McLaren Park parking lot car break-ins, Safe Haven program and dangerous dogs.
“Excelsior Gateway” presentation by Kathryn Kathman of Excelsior Action Group (EAG) outlined challenge grant to raise monies for Silver/Mission and Geneva/Mission projects.
Deputy City Attorney, Jana Clark, of Code Enforcement explained what her department was responsible for throughout the city. Locally, she works with Ingleside Police Officer McCarthy. Hotline telephone number 415 554 3977.
‘”Clinic by the Bay” (4877 Mission Street) needs volunteers according to Sue Weaver. The open house will be in July, and monetary donations received before then will be acknowledged on a “Founder’s Wall”. The clinic will be open Tuesday 2p-6p and Thursday 4p-8p with services available to low income and/or uninsured residents of the Excelsior and portions of Daly City.
Patty DeVlieg reported that with Linda Litehiser’s information printed as a handout, all details for the Parking Summit have been completed. Motion to allocate fifty dollars towards refreshments for the summit was made by Robert Katz and seconded by Leo Martinez. MOTION passed.
Jackie Cash reported that Angie (representing EDIA) asked if EDIA wanted her to ask CSFN’s support of EDIA Parking Summit resolutions. It was discussed that any request to CSFN at this time would be premature and a request for support might be made later.
Meeting of “Save McLaren Park” members, various community groups and Supervisor John Avalos was held on Friday, June 18, 2010 at City Hall, May Wong represented EDIA and reported that on Thursday (prior to meeting) Park Commission President Buell asked for a hearing based on information provided by PROSAC regarding disc golf; which was one item the group had wanted to ask Supervisor Avalos to help procure. No hearing date has yet been set by the Park and Rec. With a binder full of information and petitions presented to the supervisor, he promised to research the matter.
Leo Martinez reported that Cleveland School’s murals (Trees of Knowledge) were in danger of being destroyed. Dry rot was being removed from the rear of the school and could affect the murals on the front. During a recent remodel, the murals were altered to accommodate new fire doors without the artist’s permission according to Linda D′Avirro. Motion to send letter to School Board stating dissatisfaction that murals might be destroyed made by Grace D′Anca, seconded by Paul Rose. MOTION passed.
Announcements: David Hooper (Vice President, New Mission Terrace Association) invited all to the July 4th parade and barbeque, with parade starting at 10:30am at Capistrano Street.
Linda Litehiser was passing a petition to raise hotel tax to raise money for city budget sponsored by Supervisor Avalos. Also volunteers needed for an event in Golden Gate Park with monies given to Friends of Jerry Garcia Amphitheatre, Sunday, June 27th. Avon Breast Cancer Walk needs volunteers to handout leaflets on Saturday at Crocker Amazon Park 4p-7p. All day volunteers needed at 6:30a to 9p.
