Minutes of EDIA General Meeting of March 24, 2009

1. Treasury balance is $3117.82.

2. The March 7 “Town Hall” was discussed. Supv. John Avalos chaired, and there were representatives from several City departments. The main topic were parking, crime and housing. There was a very side age range of attendees, and young people were vocal. So many folks spoke that there was not time for the break-out sessions, which was regretted.

3. In the discussion of CSFN: it was reported that EDIA has paid its dues, and official reps to CSFN are now Angelique Mahan, Patty DeVlieg, Leo Martinez and Jackie Cash. Others who would like to participate can do so and we will get their names on the official list. CSFN works primarily on land-use and planning issues. On that topic, there was a discussion of having the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) be invited to CSFN to discuss plans and projections for population growth and development in the Bay Area Region over the next 20 to 30 years.

4. Motion made and passed with no opposition that EDIA formally request CSFN to invite BAG to CSFN to jive a presentation on projected population growth and planned development in the Bay Area Region, and specifically San Francisco , over the next 20 to 30 years.

5. The feeling was expressed that redevelopment is going to occur intensely all around the Excelsior, and that we are sure to be affected. It was also discussed that this issue should be raised at the D11 Council, so that ABAG could be invited to give a presentation to us locally.

6. There is the potential for a mural on the wall of Central Drug, to be produced with the help of Precita Eyes. If it does not work out for Central Drug, the mural will be located elsewhere in the neighborhood. Motion made and passed with no opposition that EDIA send the letter that Jackie drafted in support of the Precita Eyes project.

7.  Supervisor John Avalos spoke and made note of what he is working on. In particular he noted that on Saturday, May 2, 10AM – Noon, there will be a community meeting at the Crocker Amazon Clubhouse to discuss the uses and potential improvements for McLaren Park and Crocker-Amazon.  Supv Avalos will also be hosting another Town Hall on Saturday, April 25, 10AM – Noon, at Minnie & Lovie Ward Rec Center (650 Capitol) on the topic if the SF Budget and discussions on district issues.
